BOOK [UNTITLED] | Melanie Teresa Bohrer y Pablo Vindel

“Pablo and I combined our practices: his was working with pork intestine, mine with handmade abaca paper. Both of us were interested in language, translation and the artist book.

Through sutures we combined two thin, skin-like materials. Quieting the rattle of pork and paper with a felt encasement.

All three processes (pork, paper and felt) are hydrophilic in nature. Just like language is created in between the motions of water and air in your mouth.

We ask that two people read this book together—handling the large scale sheets so that they literally become the space between you”

About the authors

Melanie Teresa Bohrer grew up in Munich, Germany.

She received her MFA in Studio from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and previously her BFA in Printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design.

She currently co-owns and co-runs Candor Arts, a publishing company based in Chicago, IL that specializes in handmade artists books.

Pablo Vindel was born in Cuenca (Spain), 1990. A visual artist and writer, in 2014 he graduated in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain) and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. That same year he crosses the Atlantic to the renowned School of the Art Institute of Chicago (MFA in Studio), where he also was part of the educational team at the ‘Fiber and Material Studies’ and ‘Art History, Theory, and Criticism’ departments. In 2016, after completing his studies in Chicago, he was selected as the 2016
recipient of the Sullivan Scholarship, which opens the doors to a second program: a low-residency
Master’s in Creative Writing, based at Stetson University (DeLand, Florida). With a clear focus
in unconventional poetic forms — concrete poetry, sound poetry, video-poetry — Stetson’s MFA
program bridges him with artist residencies, workshops and conferences at the prestigious Atlantic Center for the Arts (New Smyrna Beach, Florida) and other prestigious cultural institutions in Santiago (Chile) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
