Anoche soñamos con la instrucción de cargar todos nuestros objetos dentro de un trozo de papel. 10 años de Naranja Publicaciones. (Last night we dreamed of the instruction to carry all our objects in a piece of paper.10 years of Naranja Publicaciones.)

Naranja Publicaciones is made up of two Sebastians: Sebastián Arancibia and Sebastián Barrante. For the past ten years, we have dedicated our lives to working with artist’s publications — that is, books and other forms of publishing conceived as autonomous works of art.

These first ten years have unfolded in two small apartments where we have lived and worked from Monday to Monday: first in the Lastarria neighborhood, and now in the Torres de Tajamar. These spaces have shaped our artistic-editorial production and infused each publication with the intimacy of inviting other artists to work together in our home.

In 2023, we began to take an interest in the exhibition dimension of artist’s books and publications. In fact, exactly two years ago, we opened the exhibition Cuando escribo obras, mis manos piensan libros at the Centro Cultural de España, where we unfolded everything we had done at its actual scale. Later, with the intention of bringing this show to other spaces, we decided to miniaturize much of our catalogue so that everything we had created — just as Duchamp once imagined — could fit inside a small box. This gave rise to the micro-exhibition When I write Tokyo, my hands think miniatures, presented at Utrecht bookstore in Tokyo, Japan, and at Asia Art Archive in New York, USA. This exhibition was born from that very impulse.

Last night we dreamed… is a revisiting of the body of work we’ve built over this first decade — a way of seeing it with new eyes. It is also an exercise in making visible the world of influences that surround our practice and allow it to take shape in multiple forms: texts, domestic objects, memories, affections, and coincidences.

Naranja Publicaciones

Publishing house, bookstore, and specialized collection focused on artist’s publications, founded in 2014 in Santiago, Chile. Directed by Sebastián Arancibia (architect, Valparaíso, 1988) and Sebastián Barrante (visual artist, La Serena, 1986). Their work focuses on the production, dissemination, preservation, and education around artist’s publications.

Over its nine years of work, it has developed an intensive editorial production and dissemination of works by Chilean and Ibero-American artists, resulting in more than 30 publications that have been exhibited at fairs and exhibitions in Chile, the United States, Europe, and Asia. Currently, its publications are held in over 25 public and private institutional collections in Chile, Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and Portugal.
