This publication by Takashi Suzuki is part of our personal collection and has been specially selected for the February newsletter. Here are some details about this publication.
- Formica is a publication by the Japanese artist Takashi Suzuki, published by the ephemera exhibition space Ens in Tokyo, Japan.
- This publication explores “fragments of thought” that exist before artworks materialize as such.
- Each box contains eight flat pieces that were present in the artist’s studio at the start of the project; these do not hold the status of finished artworks, but are rather experiments or material processes. These pieces are removed from the studio by the publisher to be intervened upon and are subsequently returned to their place of origin.
- The publication seeks to explore a new type of printed material, which refers to the notion of ephemera or multiples, but simultaneously distances itself from them, seeking to serve as a way of exploring the visualization of the processes of creation and production of an artwork.
