About the author

Sebastián Barrante (1986) / La Serena, Chile

Chilean photographer, artist, editor and bounder.

In 2014, he founded Naranja Publicaciones (ex Librería and Editorial), a space for commercialization, production and circulation of information of artists books and experimental edition. His artistic work is linked to the experimentation of the object book around the problem of the image.

Sebastián Barrante’s artist’s book is born from a string of phrases, as an exquisite corpse, that arrives to the expression “the image is the remainder of my reflection” and from the author’s later attempt to bring it into a concrete object.

In this attempt, the need to conjugate text and image appears symbiotically. This is how he constructs this book with multiple readings: a flipped text that can only be translated with the help of a mirror reflection; countless images that appear in the movement of the book as it is handled; and the reader’s own image reflected in the book itself.

La imagen es el residuo de mi reflexión, published by Naranja Publicaciones,  was hand-made by the Chilean artist and editor of Naranja Sebastián Barrante in Santiago de Chile on March of 2017. Three numbered copies were made in spanish and Three numbered copies in english.
