The sea inside | Olaya Balcells

‘I’m a bookbinder, so the book is the main support of my work and of me. So is writing -I write since I was very young-. But also is the sea: maybe because I was born very close, though more likely by my father, whose love for it led him to cross the Pacific Ocean on a long journey of months, and whose ashes now rest under it.

This book, the first I write in (my still scarce) English, is part of all that: a look at my father’s ocean, but also a trace of some of the things for which I am who I am: books, writing and the sea.’
